The Yaksha and the Yakshini represent mythical beings attendant on Kuber the God of Wealth. They are alluded to as guardians of wealth in literature. The sculptures flank the entrance of the New Delhi Office of the Reserve Bank. The sculptures were executed by Ramkinkar Baij of Vishva-Bharati, Shantiniketan. The figure of the 'Yaksha' is derived from the statue of Parkham Yaksha in the Mathura Museum and that of the Yakshini from the Bisnagar Yakshini in the Calcutta Museum.
