Central Plantation and Crops Research Institute (CPCRI), Kasaragod:


5/1/12:
- The Institute developed several production, protection, and processing technologies to improve coconut yield, besides other inter crops, and to enhance income for coconut growers.
- These technologies apart from being demonstrated at the Institute farm, were also taken directly to the farmers' own fields through the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) as a participatory approach.


Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK): 
- 1964-66 : The education commission recommended to establish vocational centres for rural youths. - suggested names to be "agricultural polytechnics"
- 1973: Indian Council for Agricultural Research - committee headed by Dr. Mohan Sinha Mehta to work out a detailed plan to implement the scheme of KVK
- 1974 - first KVK established at Pondichery
- Total number now is553.
